Tom MacPherson – Principal
After graduating with a BA in Accounting from the University of Virginia in 1972, Tom spent ten years in various leadership positions in public accounting, public utility accounting, and manufacturing, including two years with KPMG – international accounting firm. During that time, Tom also owned and operated several companies, including a public accounting company and a residential construction company. In 1982, Tom purchased a Kwik Kopy quick-print franchise, which later became Performance Printing.
During the next 20 years, Tom increased the annual sales of Performance Printing from $700,000 to $4,000,000 – making it the 11th largest single-location quick-print company in the world. Also, during that time, Tom started, purchased, sold, and/or merged nine different printing companies, including a division of a publicly held company.
In 2002, Tom sold Performance Printing and spent the next 18 months converting his clients to the new owner. While there, he also developed the corporate Marketing Plan, Sales Plan, and Procedures Manual for the acquiring company.
In 2003, Tom joined the Summit Acquisitions Group, and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2011 to set up the SAG office for North and South Carolina.
Tom has served on the Board of Directors for the Printing Industry of Georgia and the Carolinas Virginia Business Broker Association (CVBBA)- and was president of the CVBBA in 2014. Tom has practiced public accounting in Virginia and Georgia, and has a Georgia Real Estate License. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Baxter Village Community Association in Fort Mill, SC.
While his 20 year history in the printing industry makes him a natural for advising in the purchase and sale of manufacturing and service businesses, his varied background and experience makes him an excellent transition transaction adviser for the companies in many other industries.
Tom is an avid golfer, who also enjoys fishing and reading. He has been married to his wife, Lois, since 1976, and has two adult daughters – and six grandchildren.
